Certificate in Information Technology (Level 5)

Build your skills to create programs, websites, computers and small networks. Your stepping stone into the Diploma in Information Technoloy(Level 5) or into the Bachelor of Information Technology.

Programme Overview

Graduates who complete the Certificate in Information Technology will have a working knowledge of information and communications technology and be competent to sit CompTIA A+ accreditation exams.  

The papers that make up the programme are designed to create a foundation of knowledge and skills. 
This can be basis for later specialisation.

Programme Outline

This is a six month programme that provides the student with a basic knowledge of information technology and can be built on.  The four papers listed below are compulsory for this programme.




(15 Credits)

Programming Logic
To introduce students to logic and mathematical theory underpinning computer programming. To introduce students to simple computer programming tasks.


(15 credits)

Digital Media
To introduce students to interactive media graphic technologies.


(15 credits)

Internet Communications
Introduction to communications and internet fundamentals, the tools used to construct websites containing multimedia components.


(15 credits)

Hardware Fundamentals
To provide students with the knowledge and skills required to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and other software, and other troubleshoot hardware and software problems in a remote technician role. The content of this module is based on Cisco Network Academy IT Essentials course content and is intended to prepare students for CompTIA A+ certification.





Entry Requirement

Domestic Students:      

  • Basic computer skills
  • Certificate in Computing Level 3 or equivalent study/work experience
  • For mature students - work or other experience will be taken into account

International Students: IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5.0)

Further Study Options

Continue to study information technology and graduate with a Diploma in Information Technology (Level 5) or a Bachelor of Information Technology.

International Fees: $10,950 NZD

Domestic students

Certificate in Computing Level 3 or equivalent study/work experience

International students

Proven equivalence to domestic entry requirements and IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5.0)

Career Opportunities:

Graduates will have a basic working understanding of information technology, enabling them to provide lower level support to end-users or engage in further specialist study.
