Whitireia welcomed 2,000 new students to its steadily growing 2,761 strong student body this week. Porirua campus was a hive of activity and students enjoyed orientation and mingled with friends while summer provided some of its finest weather.
Customer Services and the Student Atrium were hotspots for students. Some enjoyed lunch in the sun and discussed upcoming DJ performances and Pizza eating and Sumo wrestling competitions, which are all a part of the events happening in O week.
Others got in early to sort their student IDs and timetables out.
Student Lian Zhao was waiting patiently at the end of a long queue for student IDs. Zhao is an international student from China who is enrolled on the Certificate in Professional Cookery. “I have always enjoyed cooking. It seemed obvious I would move into a qualification in it. I can’t wait to become a professional Chef here in Wellington. It couldn’t come soon enough really."
Kapiti Student Sarah Hoeta, was part of a record class size in the Certificate in Practical Photography..
“This is my first time on campus, it’s really pretty. I always wanted to do photography, I love it and can’t wait to get started!”
