A new campus is in place for the
students of The Whitireia New Zealand Media Training Centre. The Whitireia Council
voted to exit the Cuba St campus late in 2011, unhappy with a low safety score
in regard to earthquakes. The pre-emptive move was taken for the safety of
students and staff.
New digs for the media students was
blessed on Wednesday 1 February at 15 Dixon Street, Wellington. Ngati Toa
kaumatua Taku Parai, senior staff and programme tutors completed a service to
give the campus a positive footing. The new facility is considerably larger than
the Cuba location and better suited to student needs.
“I am delighted to have a
building in a great location, just around the corner from our previous building
- it could not be better” said Kaye Jujnovich, Faculty Dean. “We
have duplicated Cuba street facilities into this large premises. We have
terrific facilities going in here, production suites, radio booths, video editing rooms
and other student resources.”
The new classrooms are large and the Graham Tetley Library is also being moved onto the campus . A
powhiri to welcome students into the new campus is on Tuesday 7
February.
