New students were welcomed to Whitireia at a Powhiri this morning under a packed out Atrium at the Porirua Campus.

The Powhiri, conducted by Ngāti Toa, officially marked the opening of the new academic year at Whitireia along with the start of Orientation week for students.

Don Campbell, Chief Executive, addressed the students and welcomed them to Whitireia.  He spoke of the success of Whitireia and students, stating how Whitireia are currently number one across New Zealand polytechnics for student success and achievement. 

Various other staff spoke and outlined the services available to students while studying at Whitireia. 

This week promises to be a great week for new and returning students with a great-line up of activities planned each day.

Today’s Powhiri was all about celebrating the beginning of the student’s journey with Whitireia.
