Technical Requirements

Your computer needs to meet certain requirements to support your access to online learning.

Operating System	Recommended Windows 2000, XP or Vista OR MAC OS X, G3 512MB RAM or more Sound capable Minimum Windows 2000 128MB RAM Sound capable
Screen Resolution	Recommended 1024 x 768 pixels Minimum 800 X 600 pixels
Internet Connection	Recommended High Speed Broadband or Cable connection Minimum 56K Modem connected to the Internet Note: Access will be slow. Images may take a long time to download. Video content and large documents may be difficult to access.
Pop-up Blockers	Some courses use pop-up windows and you may need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser. Check with the Online Learning Centre if you are unsure.
Useful Applications	Word Processing / Spreadsheets / PowerPoint Presentations Microsoft Office 2007: a student version is available at a discounted price Open Office: a free alternative office suite is available to download from www.openoffice.org.nz/ Other Useful Utilities 7-Zip File Compression is a free open source application available from www.7-zip.org/
Multimedia Plugins	Plugins are additional pieces of software that add extra capability to your web browser, such as the ability to view movies, run Java applets, or see Flash animations. Flash Player - plays animations and movies in the Flash format Windows Media Player – streaming audio and video player for Windows Quicktime Player – adds digital media capabilities to your PC or Mac Adobe Acrobat Reader – allows you to view PDF files
