Learning Skills Centre Assignment Pre-Reading Service
- Off-campus postgraduate students are able to send their draft assignments to the Learning Skills Centre for review and advice.
- Students are expected to have spell-checked their assignments prior to sending them to the Learning Skills Centre.
- It is expected that your assignment will be returned to you within 5 working days, though this may not always be possible.
- The time given to each assignment will be limited to 1 hour.
- Articles which address specific aspects of academic writing are available from.
- Students should familiarise themselves with the information on this website before using the pre-submission service.
If students live locally they can book one hour one-to-one appointments with a Learning Skills tutor within the normal hours that the Learning Skills Centre is open.
These appointments can be booked by email, by phone: 04 237 3103 extension 3721,
or in person.
The submission form needs to include information such as:
- Full details of the assignment topic or question
- Relevant instructions and marking criteria
- Assignment due date
- The questions or areas that you want the tutor to address
- The assignment draft (as a word document, e.g. .doc, .rtf, .txt)
What we will do
- Provide feedback and advice about any areas we consider need attention within your draft
- Respond to your questions with relevant information as to how these matters can be addressed
- Comment on one or more of the following features: focus, structure, style, presentation
What we will not do
Identify every mistake or error in your draft Correct every error Comment on matters directly relating to course or subject content
How do you submit an assignment to Learning Skills for Pre-reading?
Save your assignment in Microsoft Word document format (.doc) to ensure that it can be quickly opened by the Administrator and Learning Skills Centre tutor.
How do we respond?
Usually within 5 working days you will receive your assignment back as an attachment to an email.
It will be marked with comments and suggestions using Track Changes. The tutor may attach appropriate material which will help you address identified problems or may direct you to relevant web sites.
