Academic Support Coordinator (Māori)  

The Academic Support Coordinator (Māori) will respond to Māori students’ issues and co-ordinate appropriate support to achieve success. If you think there may be an issue, contact the Academic Support Coordinator (Māori), no matter how big or small the issue might seem. Advice and support is offered across a range of areas that encompass educational, cultural, spiritual, economic, social and sometimes personal growth.

 The Academic Support Co-ordinator (Māori) is available to help with things such as:

  • Enrolment: Where to go, whom to see, what to write etc?
  • Fees: How to pay, when to pay, whom to pay, do you have to pay?
  • Capability: How will I know if I can handle the work, can I make it etc?
  • Technology: Computers, emails, internet - what do I need to know?
  • Understanding: Academic language, terminology, long words etc.
  • Adjustment: Will I fit in, can I study and work, what about my kids etc?
  • Introductions: How do I introduce myself, will I have to say it in Māori etc?
  • Level of study: Will it be too easy or too difficult etc?
  • Support networks: Who will help me if I have problems/issues?

The role of the Academic Support Coordinator (Māori) is to respond to Māori student's issue(s) and/or co-ordinate appropriate support to achieve success. If you think there maybe an issue, contact the Academic Support Coordinator (Māori), no matter how big or small the issue might seem. Advice and support across a range of areas are offered that encompass educational, cultural, spiritual, economic, social and sometimes political.

The Academic Support Coordinator (Māori) can also act as a mentor - someone who has already completed their first year of study and can assist you with course-related tasks.

  • Assignment writing skills
  • Proof reading assignments
  • Public speaking skills
  • Exam preparation
  • Time management
  • Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga.

  • Peer tutoring
  • Social support
  • Financial advice/support
  • Health concerns
  • Counselling
  • Study skills
