Poutama Academic Learning Services
Wellington region and distance students
The purpose of Poutama is to provide support and skills to maximise academic success. All services are confidential unless a student or staff member has signed a waiver to the contrary. Client feedback is an integral part of the service.
Poutama academic learning services are delivered by professional staff in individual, group, class and distance modes. Services to enhance the retention, progression and academic success of Whitireia students are free to all students and staff.
A peer tutor scheme, where a competent student is paid to assist other students who are experiencing difficulty with subject content, is also administered through Poutama.
The academic advisor (accessibility) works with students and staff to make reasonable accommodations for students with a disability. These can include examination assistants and learning assistants.
