You may be eligible to apply for one of the following scholarships to assist with your programme fees.

  • Scholarships for continuing students
  • Scholarships for first year students/school leavers

General conditions

The Whitireia Foundation is pleased to offer a number of scholarships to Whitireia students who are studying fulltime. Some scholarships are for school leavers while a number are for students who have already satisfactorily completed at least 20 weeks fulltime study at Whitireia.

Scholarships are awarded on the twin criteria of merit and perseverance to succeed in spite of personal circumstances. Applicants must complete an application form and are usually required to provide CV and Faculty report on their previous study at Whitireia.

The amounts awarded will usually be at the discretion of the Whitireia Foundation trustees.

A report of each recipient's progress will be forwarded to the scholarship sponsor at the completion of each academic year.

Applications for the following individual scholarships must meet the Whitireia Foundation Scholarship conditions, (please refer to the 2011 Eligibility Criteria and Conditions)

 

Scholarships for continuing students 

Altrusa & Zonta Women's Suffrage Scholarship
Altrusa International Inc (Mana) and Zonta International Club of Mana offer 2 joint scholarships of $1000.00 to be awarded to two female Whitireia students aged 25 years or older.

Arrow International gift $1500.00 per year for one or more Business Management or Carpentry students.

The ASB Bank gift $2500.00 a year to be used for one or more scholarships at the discretion of the trustees.

Athfield Architects offer three scholarships of $1000.00 each to Whitireia students enrolled in Business Management or related programmes

Ian Dale Scholarship
Each year the Dale family gift $1000.00 to the Whitireia Foundation to be awarded as a scholarship in memory of Ian Dale. In recognition of Ian's involvement with Project K, preference will be given to applicants with previous participation in Project K.

Kirk-Burnnand Family
Chris and Helen Kirk-Burnnand have had a long association with Whitireia Community Polytechnic and Chris is also a Whitireia Foundation trustee. Each year the Kirk-Burnnand family gift $2500.00 to be used for one or more scholarships.

Ford Sumner

Ford Sumner offer a scholarship of $1,000 to a Whitireia student that is enrolled onto a community related Bachelor such as Social Work or related programmes. The successful recipient will not be in full-time employment and will have shown strong academic performance.

New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (Wellington) Inc.
The NZ Federation of Graduate Women offer three scholarships of $2500.00 each to female students studying fulltime in a degree or diploma programme at Whitireia. Applicants will have completed at least one year of their degree or diploma.

Ngati Toa Scholarship
On the 19 June 2007 - the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi at Mana - the Foundation announced an annual scholarship of $2,500.00 for students of Ngati Toa descent enrolled to study at Whitireia.

Scholarships for first year students/school leavers

Sheppard Family Scholarship
The Sheppard Family provide a first year nursing student $2,500.00 per year for three years subject to a satisfactory annual review. This scholarship is available to students from Porirua secondary schools - current students or those who have left secondary school within the last three years.

Mana Community Grants Foundation Trades Scholarship
The Mana Community Grants Foundation is offered to 2010 STAR/ Gateway high school students that have enrolled onto a 2011 Trades programme at Whitireia Community Polytechnic's a result of attending a STAR/ Gateway course through their high school. The scholarship will be allocated at the discretion of the  Whitireia Foundation Trustee members.

Gwen Price -Wellington Ostomy Association Grant
Wellington Ostomy Association, offer a grant up to the value of $1000 to be awarded to one or more first year nursing students to be used to purchase text books. Eligibility is limited to those who are not eligible for other financial assistance such as Student Allowance 

The Whitireia Foundation General Scholarships
The Whitireia Foundation main aim is to promote, support and enhance the purposes and activities of Whitireia Community Polytechnic and its student body.
A number of general scholarships are provided by the Whitireia Foundation who acknowledges the support of groups such as Mana Community Grants Foundation and Canon.
