Design and art course comes to Kāpiti

Published on

Kāpiti and Horowhenua students wanting full-time tertiary art study have a new opportunity to study closer to home. From 1999, the Whitireia Kāpiti campus is offering year one of our four-year Craft, Art and Design programme, which has previously only been available at Porirua.

Full-time study at this level leads to further tertiary art and design studies in more specialised fields. It is intended as a preparation ground. Many students choose to continue their studies at Whitireia, specialising in jewellery, clay, fibre or print. Others will want to study graphics or furniture, photography or fashion, and will apply to the appropriate specialist institutions towards the end of their Level Four year.

The Kāpiti campus has special qualities that enhance the possibilities for sculpture and for computer graphics. To maintain the range of choice in media studies which we have available at Porirua the students are, on occasion, transported between campuses for classes.
