Being production manager at Capital Community Newspaper is very satisfying, says the man who holds the position.
Stephen Roberts says each day brings new rewards, with a newspaper rolling off the press almost every day.
The daily deadlines keep his job interesting, which includes overseeing advertising designs, providing technical expertise, looking after seven staff, as well taking care of the IT needs of the office.
“It’s a good job. I like the flexibility and variety,” he says.
Stephen says one of the reasons he received the opportunity to apply for this position, was because he’d completed the Desktop Publishing course at Whitireia Community Polytechnic four years ago.
He’d already worked in the publication industry for years, but didn’t have formal design qualifications. The desktop course provided this, and added to the Business-Computing qualifications he already completed at Whitireia. He was a well-rounded graduate when he was offered this job.
The Desktop Publishing course is great for the beginner and experienced alike, student are provided with the tools to progress as far as they want. The course builds on teaching solid publishing foundations though to advanced computer graphics skills.
