Aim

To introduce students to major developments in Information Technology in New Zealand. 

To introduce students to the theories, principles and practical skills associated with effective

Communication in relation to Information Technology contexts.

Communication Foundations/ Interpersonal Communication , Managing Relationships , Knowledge Management Decisions , Research & Processing Information , Designing IT Documents, Critical Thinking, Logic and Creating Arguments , Negotiation and Conflict Management , Intercultural Communication , Organisational Communication , Leadership , Team & Group Work Communication , Effective Meetings

 

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of effective ways to influence and improve communications.
  2. Develop strategies in relation to team work, considering group dynamics, effective meeting techniques, leadership skills, negotiation techniques, and conflict management.
  3. Produce a range of business communications.
  4. Demonstrate skills in relation to reflective journaling in relation to note taking, record keeping, evaluation and planning.
  5. Research and evaluate IT contexts considering past, present as well as upcoming and future developments in IT.
  6. Develop referencing skills.
  7. Prepare and deliver effective oral presentations.
