Aim

To enable students to understand and use appropriate project management principles for the development of business or software systems, perform a feasibility study that evaluates the technical, financial, environmental, legal, and operational factors of a project, create a project plan for a complex business problem and perform risk analysis and task prioritisation for a complex project.

 

Course content

Project management body of knowledge (PMBOK), techniques and skills needed for successful implementation of projects in the organisational environment, PMBOK aspects (including quality, time, human resource, scope, integration, risk, communication, procurement)

 

Learning objectives

  1. Critically review literature on project management methods.
  2. Conduct a feasibility analysis that evaluates the technical, financial, environmental, legal, and operational factors for an information system within an organisation.
  3. Produce a project plan including risk analysis and task prioritisation to meet a defined specification.
  4. Use project management software to manage tasks and apply the steps and techniques used in project control.
  5. Select and justify an appropriate systems development methodology for an information systems project and apply the prescribed steps and techniques.
  6. Produce an implementation plan for an information system to a predefined standard.
