Get prepared for the commercial dance sector with a unique and vibrant programme that emphasises technical skills and performance experience

The Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) equips students with a high level of technical, artistic and interpretative skill in dance and provides the opportunity for practical performing experience. Students also study dance history, anatomy and gain the skills to become a self-employed artist.

Students perform in productions which showcase the breadth of dance styles they have mastered during their studies.

Programme Outline

Areas covered on this programme include:

  • jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and lyrical/contemporary dance techniques
  • circus techniques
  • body conditioning/Pilates
  • dance history
  • anatomy and nutrition
  • performance/repertoire
  • audition skills
  • creative enterprise​
  • dance styles

Classes are delivered between 8.45am and 3pm. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with students who are studying a variety of performing arts programmes, including circus.

Completion of the Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) provides a pathway into the third year of the Bachelor of Creativity (Performing Arts).

Entry Requirements

NCEA Level 2 or equivalent, plus evidence of skills/ability/aptitude based on audition and interview

International students

Proven equivalence to domestic entry requirements and IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5)
